Notes on a glacier wall

A week below a north face, photographing the same wall at every hour it was light.

Below the wall the slope is dry stones and thin grass. Above it is ice that has not melted in a thousand years. The camp sat on the line between them.

Morning: the wall in full sun from six until eleven.

I photographed the wall at every hour of light for a week. The pictures that worked were the dull ones, when cloud flattened the ice and you could see its structure.
