Balconies, counted

Two buildings, a hundred and twelve balconies, and what people keep on them.

A white apartment block with rows of rounded balconies and palm trees

The white block has fifty-six rounded balconies. On a Sunday morning I counted what was on them: thirty-one with plants, eleven with bicycles, four with nothing at all.

The lodge has fifty-six too, in timber. On every one of them there were boots.
